Running with Braiding with Kris McDermet,Dummerston, Vermont
Kris began braiding and hooking in the late 1970’s. She teaches classes in both braiding and hooking in Vermont and throughout the country, and recently published a book, Combining Rug Hooking & Braiding: Basics, Borders & Beyond. Her interest is in combining the two art/craft forms to make interesting shapes for the wall or floor. The colors, designs, and textures of hand dyed and ‘as is’ wool complement both mediums. She developed a joining technique to create endless design and textural possibilities, so that the delicacy of the hooking is set off by the boldness of the braiding. For this class students arrive with 3 hooked shapes-1circle and 2 diamonds. Instruction includes basic braiding techniques, padding and lining the hooked pieces, then braiding around the joined sections. krismcdermetrugs.com
